DESCRIPTION Helping educate the next
Helping educate the next generation of female founders to raise the money necessary for their businesses to succeed! The goal of this event is to give hope to women entrepreneurs looking to raise money and help them devise a strategy for doing so.
Evidence has found that women business owners start and raise less capital than their male counterparts. Let’s find out why that is and debunk the complexities for female entrepreneurs raising the money they deserve!
INTERVIEWING AN EXPERT…
Enjoy a 2-on-1 interview of Susan Coleman, a professor of finance at the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in entrepreneurial and corporate finance. Her research has been concentrated in the area of entrepreneurial finance with a particular focus on the ways in which women entrepreneurs secure financing for their firms. Dr. Coleman’s work on this topic is widely published and cited in hundreds of refereed journal articles.
Dr. Coleman’s book entitled A Rising Tide: Financing Strategies for Women-Owned Firms was published by the Stanford University Press in 2012. Her most recent book, The Next Wave: Financing Women’s Growth-Oriented Firms, was published in August 2016. In 2016 Dr. Coleman was also selected to receive the Tonkin Award, the University of Hartford’s top award for scholarly or artistic creativity.
Two successful, CT based female CEO’s who have been through the process of raising funds– and know the right questions to ask!
Ashley Stone is an entrepreneur and founder of Beauty Entourage, a beauty management company. Noted as one of the top 360 entrepreneurial businesses across America by Entrepreneur Magazine, Ashley has grown her company to over 1 million in sales and provided beauty services to over 20,000 event clients. Her dedication and passion for the beauty industry as a hairstylist has grown into a journey of self-discovery and new paths as she continues to grow as a businesswoman. Beauty Entourage is one of the leading beauty management companies with over 40 artists and 5 locations on the east coast. She is always looking to push the boundaries of technology and incorporating new ways to streamline the convenience of on-location beauty services.
Ali Lazowski founded Bare Life, a crave-worthy allergen friendly food startup, which launched with a crowdfunding campaign last fall. Ali attended culinary school in Italy before starting college at Johns Hopkins University. Ali has always been passionate about food, but it was her simultaneous battles with cancer and Lyme disease that inspired Ali to truly explore her love of food and launch a business. She began by creating Bare Life’s coconut hot cocoa mix – organic, Kosher, vegan, gluten free, Paleo, and produced locally – and by writing Bare Life’s first sweets-centric cookbook. She was also recently named one of the Hartford Business Journal’s Top 40 under 40.

On the 27th of September, The InsurTech Accelerator, part of Hartford InsurTech Hub powered by Startupbootcamp welcomes you to its home in Hartford for a FastTrack day as part of our international tour to find the best rising insurtech companies.
The event is free of charge and aims to connect interesting startups with our ecosystem to receive feedback and mentorship from Startupbootcamp leadership and local industry mentors. Our goal is to learn more about the most promising Insurtech startups in the marketplace for our program while providing valuable mentoring.
Please be aware that only 10 teams from all registrations will be chosen for the event.
What is a FastTrack?
FastTracks are a series of events we host all over the globe. From the pool of applications at the event, ten startups will be invited to present their innovative ideas to the Startupbootcamp team, fellow entrepreneurs, and top industry experts, as well as our investing partners. Following the presentations, there will be roundtable meetings and networking, where each startup will receive feedback, and discuss ideas, product, team and find ways to identify growth opportunities for businesses.
The feedback sessions will answer any questions the startups may have, including: how to fundraise? What is the value of an acceleration program? How strong is my business model? How to engage in projects with the program partners? You will also learn more about our Hartford-based program.
FastTracks are also a great opportunity to receive an invitation to our Selection Days, and potentially become one of the ten teams to enter our 2019 programs.
Mentorship is one of the best ways to engage with innovative new insurtech startups. Mentors provide startups with real, life-learned advice, and inspire startups to look at problems and challenges from a different perspective. If you are one of Hartford Insurtech Hub’s or Startupbootcamp InsurTech’s experts, we encourage you to attend this FastTrack to speak to startups one-on-one and provide valuable mentorship.
We are looking for startups specializing in:
